Why You Could Have Low Back Pain
Are you suffering from chronic low back pain? Let me guess, it just flared up one day out of nowhere…and you did nothing to cause this. But now you are wallowing in a good deal of pain and limited in what activities you can participate in. Maybe you’re even unable to get to that desk job of yours. This is a case that I’ve heard regularly from our practice members. So I want to discuss some of the common themes I have found in all of these scenarios.
Listen to Your Body
Time and time again, I treat people who wait until their pain is unbearable. Don’t let pain be your motivating factor to take care of your health. If you do, there could be irreversible damage, time away from work, months of correction, and missing out on living your life. Pain is a form of communication from your body. When there is dysfunction present, your nerve fibers that send pain signals are stimulated. Pain is transmitted through your nervous system. Only 10-15% of your entire nervous system communicates pain. This is typically why pain is the last thing to come about and the first thing to go away. Pain is just a symptom. The remaining 85-90% of your nervous system regulates your vitals including your heart, lungs, and digestive tract as well as your motor system (muscles and movement). So…basing your state of health on feeling or pain is basing it off of only 10-15% of what keeps you living each and every day.
Lack of Knowledge or Consistency in Care
Most people I talk to are shocked when they learn that the nervous system controls everything. It tells our heart to beat, our lungs to breathe, our food to digest and much more! For some reason, the benefits of Chiropractic have been kept on the down low….and I am here to change that. In our office, we will spend time diligently educating you on your spine. It is our mission to spread the message of chiropractic care to build a healthier and happier community.
When I first meet a practice member during their initial consultation, and they have visited a chiropractor before, it is often the case that they started going for back or neck pain, started to feel better and then stopped going. Unfortunately, we are usually working through years of damage and poor health. Therefore, it isn’t going to be truly corrected in just a few visits. It is going to take time, repetition and long term maintenance for lasting results.
The Choice is Yours
We are all guilty of making poor choices when it comes to our health. When it comes to your spine, don’t let that be one of your poor choices. Just like a car, with age and wear and tear, we need routine maintenance to keep going. Make sure to add activities that promote spinal health into your regular routine including stretching, core strengthening and chiropractic adjustments.
